In modern automated production lines for building materials, the Block Making Machine serves as the core equipment for producing concrete blocks, paving stones, permeable bricks, and curbstones. Its operational stability and precision directly determine the quality of the finished products and the overall efficiency of the production line.

During operation, the block making machine faces harsh working conditions, including high-frequency vibrations, dust erosion, heavy loads, and frequent start-stop cycles. Under long-term heavy loads, traditional travel wheel bearing systems are highly prone to bearing wear, axle deformation, or misalignment. To enhance overall equipment performance, an increasing number of mid-to-high-end block making machine manufacturers are introducing the modular DRS Wheel Block System.

1. What is the DRS Wheel Block System?

The DRS Wheel Block System is a closed, independent box structure that integrates the travel wheel, high-strength alloy housing, bearings, and connecting flanges. It can be directly connected to drive motors, gearboxes, and the main steel structure of the block making machine.

The DRS Wheel Block System offers 8 standard sizes (DRS 112 to DRS 500) with wheel diameters from 112 mm to 500 mm and single-wheel load capacities ranging from 2.75 to 40 metric tons, available with double-flange, single-flange, or flangeless wheels to match various rail configurations and heavy-duty load requirements.

Key Technical Features of DRS Wheel Block

Multi-Directional Connection Interfaces: Provides top, end, side, and pin connection options, significantly simplifying installation and structural design.

High-Strength Sealed Housing: Typically made of high-strength die-cast aluminum alloy or ductile iron, offering exceptional rigidity and superior dustproof sealing performance.

Premium Wheel Material: The wheels are mostly made of cast steel, featuring excellent self-lubrication, wear resistance, and shock-absorbing capacity.

2. Core Applications of DRS Wheel Block System in Block Making Machines

A block production line is an automated system where multiple workstations operate collaboratively. The DRS wheel block is mainly applied in the following key components and mobile units:

1. Mobile Frame / Shuttle Car: Some large-scale or mobile block making machines need to move smoothly between different mold workstations or discharge stations. The DRS wheel block can withstand static and dynamic loads of dozens of tons, ensuring that the main frame does not derail or shift during frequent, high-acceleration, and high-deceleration lateral movements.

2. Feed Cart / Hopper System: The feed cart needs to rapidly and repeatedly pull the mixed concrete over the mold for filling at an extremely high frequency (multiple times per minute). With its high-precision travel trajectory and low rolling resistance, the DRS wheel block system enables more precise positioning of the feed cart, significantly reducing filling time and improving feeding uniformity.

3. Finger Car / Transfer Car: After wet blocks are molded, they must be transported to the curing kiln by a shuttle car (Finger Car System) and then moved to the cubing/palletizing area after curing. The shuttle car demands extremely high track alignment precision. The fixed alignment design and guide wheel configuration of the DRS system effectively guarantee seamless connection between the shuttle car and the curing kiln tracks.

3. Core Advantages Brought by the DRS System

Using the DRS wheel block system on block production lines addresses numerous pain points associated with traditional wheel assemblies:

1. Outstanding Shock Resistance and Dust Protection: Concrete production sites are filled with cement dust, gravel particles, and intense excitation forces. In traditional wheel assemblies, dust easily penetrates bearings, causing lock-ups, while high-frequency vibrations can induce axle cracking. However, the fully enclosed housing of the DRS wheel block effectively blocks dust ingress. Combined with high-strength bearings and ductile iron wheel bodies, it effectively absorbs vibration energy and significantly extends component lifespan.

2. Superior Positioning Accuracy and Smooth Operation: Block molding places extremely high demands on block density and visual appearance; any lateral shaking can cause uncured wet blocks to crack or chip. Combined with gear motors and variable frequency drive (VFD) technology, the DRS wheel block system achieves "soft start and soft stop" along with millimeter-level precision positioning, ensuring wet blocks are protected from inertial impact during conveyance.

3. "Plug and Play" Design for Rapid Replacement: When traditional wheels break down, dismantling and re-aligning the tracks is extremely time-consuming. The DRS wheel block features Fixed Alignment characteristics. After removing the old wheel block and installing a new one, it automatically maintains its original trajectory precision without needing complex re-calibration.

Conclusion

In the modern building materials equipment industry—where high automation, high reliability, and low maintenance costs are actively pursued—the DRS wheel block system is no longer just a simple travel component, but a key technical solution for enhancing the overall performance of block making machines.

By adopting the DRS wheel block system, block machine manufacturers can effectively resolve travel system failure issues caused by high dust, heavy loads, and high-frequency vibrations. This provides downstream building material manufacturers with automated block production equipment that operates more smoothly, experiences less downtime, and offers a longer service life.
