DRS 250 Demag Wheels Blocks are high-performance industrial travel wheels designed for heavy-duty crane systems, material handling equipment, and automated transportation applications. As a key component of the Demag DRS wheel block system, the wheels provide reliable load support, smooth traveling performance, and long operational life under demanding working conditions.

1. Five-Sided Enclosed Housing: The cast-iron housing encloses the travel wheel and bearing system on five sides. This design provides maximum mechanical protection against harsh environmental factors, impact loads, and factory debris while ensuring high housing rigidity and precise dimensional stability.
2. Upgraded Bearing System: Unlike sizes DRS 112 through 200—which rely on deep-groove ball bearings—the DRS 250 is equipped with generously dimensioned tapered roller bearings. This upgrade allows the assembly to handle significantly higher horizontal forces and side-thrust loads generated during heavy industrial transport. The bearings are sealed on both sides and lubricated for life.
3. Patented Asymmetrical Housing: The housing features an asymmetrical geometry that simplifies maintenance. When travel wheels experience wear or need to be swapped for different materials, the wheel can be removed and replaced from the side without dismounting the top connection or realigning the entire unit from the supporting steelstructure.
4. Modular Connection Options
Prepared mounting surfaces with tight position tolerances allow the DRS 250 to be integrated into diverse structural layouts:

Top Connection: Bolted directly to the bottom of crossbeams or superstructures.
Side & End Connections: Ideal for installations within hollow profile sections or restricted vertical clearances.
Pin Connection: Allows for articulated or pivoting mounting layouts.
5. Versatile Wheel Tread Configurations
The standard travel wheel is machined from self-lubricating spheroidal graphite cast iron (GGG 70), which offers vibration-damping properties and high wear resistance. The DRS 250 supports multiple wheel contours to match different rail profiles:
Type A: Double-flanged wheels for standard rail guiding.
Type B / E: Flangeless wheels for use with external side guide rollers or trackless floor operation.
Type D: Single-flanged wheels for floor-level running units.
Type S: V-shape, trapezoidal, or custom concave profiles for specialized guide rails.
Specialty Materials: Available with Polyamide treads for quiet operation or Hydropur polyurethane tires for high-acceleration, flangeless transport.
6. Built-in Accessory Integration
The housing features integrated threaded boreholes that allow optional accessories to be bolted on directly during initial installation or retrofitted later. Standard attachments include horizontal guide roller brackets, rail sweepers, and impact buffers.
1. Overhead Traveling & Portal Cranes
End Carriages: Serves as the primary drive and idler units for single- and double-girder overhead traveling cranes, gantry cranes, and semi-gantry cranes.
Heavy Trolleys: Operates as the cross-travel mechanism for high-capacity crane crab units handling payloads between 20 and 50 tonnes.
2. Heavy Material Transfer Carts
Factory & Shipyard Transport: Powered transfer cars transporting heavy dies, steel coils, molds, and prefabricated structural modules across stamping plants, foundries, and shipyards.
Assembly Line Shuttles: Rail Guided Vehicle (RGV ) and rail-guided shuttles in heavy machinery manufacturing.
3. Automated Storage and Retrieval Systems (AS/RS)
Stacker Cranes: Bottom travel assemblies for high-bay warehouse stacker cranes operating in continuous 24/7 logistics environments.
4. Architectural & Structural Movement
Movable Superstructures: Retractable roof systems for stadiums and observatories, heavy acoustic sliding doors in aircraft hangars, and movable partition walls in exhibition halls.
5. Offshore & Marine Handling Equipment
Dockside & Deck Machinery: Traveling gantries for offshore drilling platforms, shipyard maintenance cranes, and launch/recovery frameworks for heavy marine equipment.
6. Mining & Bulk Material Handling Equipment
Excavation & Reclaiming Machines: Bottom travel units for bucket-wheel excavators, stacker-reclaimers, and heavy conveying gantries operating in open-pit mines and bulk terminals.
Heavy Ore Rail Transport: High-load transfer cars moving raw minerals, slag, and slurry loads over uneven, highly abrasive track environments.
7. Steel Mill & Metallurgical Cranes
Slab Yard Cranes: Travel mechanisms for slab-handling and tongs cranes operating under continuous thermal radiation (800°C–1000°C), heavy gripping impacts, and high abrasive scale buildup.
Hot Strip Mill (HSM) Cranes: Roll-change and coil-handling cranes running in continuous high-humidity, steam, and oil-mist environments requiring high side-thrust load absorption.
Cold Mill Cranes: Precision automated coil stackers requiring zero-leakage sealing systems to prevent grease contamination on clean, finished sheet metal surfaces.
